Delhi Metro Magenta Line Route, Map, Stations & Real Estate Development

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) proposed the Magenta line metro route between Botanical Garden in Noida and Janakpuri in Delhi to provide an alternative route to connect the Noida region with western Delhi through south Delhi. Both stations were already connected by the Blue Line of Delhi Metro. The Magenta Line metro route abolished the overburdened Blue Line route by giving a speedier way of getting across the NCR, without crossing central Delhi and the congested nodes of Rajiv Chowk and Mandi House.

Current status of Delhi Metro magenta line extension

The work on extending the Delhi Metro’s Magenta line is in full flow and the Janakpuri West to RK Ashram segment is almost complete. The Janakpuri West-Krishna Park Extension stretch was opened in January 2025 as part of Phase-4 of Delhi Metro.

DMRC has finished the highest point of the Delhi Metro network at Haiderpur Badli Mor station. The 490-metre segment is located on Janakpuri West – RK Ashram Marg line at a height of 28.362 metre at Pier No. 340.

3 Delhi Metro stations to be renamed

26th November, 2025: Chief minister Rekha Gupta has announced the renaming of one existing metro station and two forthcoming stations. It is targeted at making the passengers’ commute easier. One of the metro stations is Pitampura station on the Red Line, which will be called Madhuban Chowk. The metro station will also be an interchange station on the future RK Puram-Janakpuri stretch of the Magenta Line.

“Besides, the CM said that the under-construction North Pitampura station in QU Block has been renamed as North Pitampura-Prashant Vihar, whereas the proposed Pitampura North station will be named as Haiderpur Village. The two metro lines fall under the corridor of RK Puram-Janakpuri and are planned to be operational this year.

Expansion of Delhi Metro's Magenta Line

DMRC is planned to add 44 new stations to the existing network of metros under the Delhi Metro Phase 4 project. This is projected to improve connectivity in South, Central and East Delhi. The new metro lines will have six new corridors and would cover 112-km. Three of these priority corridors are projected to be ready by March 2026. These are the Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg segment, Aerocity-Tughlakabad (Golden Line) portion and the Maujpur-Majlis Park section (Pink Line extension). Project projected to cost Rs 24,749 crore

Janakpuri West to Ramkrishna Ashram Marg

The Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line runs between Janakpuri West and Botanical Garden, crossing with the Blue Line on the Delhi Metro network. The Magenta Line extension will link Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Janakpuri West. There will be one intersection of the corridor at Majlis Park on Delhi Metro Pink Line. Extension of Magenta Line from Janakpuri West to Krishna Park was inaugurated on 5 January 2025. Once operational, the Janakpuri West to Ramakrishna Ashram Marg metro line will greatly improve the commuting experience in North Delhi, offering passengers an alternative route to reach the Delhi Metro Pink Line.

South Extension

DMRC is also planning to extend the Delhi Metro Magenta Line further south for easy access to metro facility for South Delhi residents. The proposed line is likely to cut through the busy commercial and residential neighborhoods of south Delhi. The south extension line is anticipated to be finished by 2025.

Knowledge corridor

The Magenta Line metro line is called the ‘Knowledge Corridor’ by the DMRC as the metro route connects four important universities in Delhi NCR. The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) are linked with the metro through Janakpuri – Kalkaji Mandir metro line. The Botanical Garden-Kalkaji Mandir metro line, which has been operational since December 2017, has made it possible to reach Jamia Milia Islamia University in south Delhi and Amity University in Noida via metro.

Aerocity-Tughlakabad Corridor

The Tughlakabad-Aerocity Silver Line which is soon to be launched as part of Delhi Metro Phase 4 project will have connectivity with Pink line and Magenta line. The metro will improve access to south Delhi, Vasant Kunj, IGNOU, Mahipalpur, terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport and other places. Of them, 11 will be underground and four elevated. The line is slated for completion in March 2026.

Facilities of the Magenta Line Metro

Trains without drivers

India’s first driverless metro is the Magenta Line in Delhi. It achieved full adherence to unattended train operations (UTO), a crucial milestone in DMRC’s journey towards automation. The shift was implemented in stages. PM Narendra Modi flagged off the country’s first autonomous metro train on Magenta Line on 28th December 2020.

DMRC’s Phase-IV corridors to have driverless trains

October 24, 2025 DMRC will also introduce driverless train operations on the upcoming Phase-4 lines. The move is for promotion of automation, safety and operational efficiency across the Delhi metro network.

The Delhi Metro has expanded its Unattended Train Operation (UTO) network to include 69 autonomous trains operating on the Pink Line and Magenta Line.

Other important facts

The tallest escalator is in Janakpuri West metro station with a vertical height of 15 metres.

It was on the Magenta Line that for the first time two parallel tunnels were dug at the same time. This was at the Dabri Mor station.

Shankar Vihar is the only Delhi Metro station where the military has limited free movement. That’s because it falls under Delhi Cantonment area.

The deepest metro station is Hauz Khas on Magenta Line and Yellow Line, at a depth of 32 metres.

The Haiderpur Badli Metro stop would be the tallest stop on the Delhi Metro network. It will also be an interchange point between the existing Yellow line (Samaypur Badli-Huda City Centre) station and the soon-to-be-built Metro station of the Magenta line route expansion. The highest elevated metro station in the world will be created under Phase IV of the Delhi Metro project. The station will be as tall as a seven-storey skyscraper. The platform will be at the 24.25 metre level and the track at the 23.2 meter level.

How have commuters profited from the Delhi Metro Magenta line?

Improved connectivity: The extension of Magenta Metro Line would improve connectivity to the western region.

Easy interchange facility: The metro route provides an interchange facility at Kalkaji Mandir to travel easily between Noida and Faridabad.

Reduced Traffic Congestion: The Delhi Metro Magenta Line has offered a new means of transportation which has helped to minimize road congestion.

economy means of transportation: The Delhi Metro Magenta Line is an economy mode of travel for the population with a reasonable fare scheme.

Supports environmental sustainability: Delhi Metro provides an eco-friendly means of transit which reduces automotive pollution. The energy-efficient trains cut total carbon emissions compared to the same number of cars.

How will the Magenta Line Metro affect Delhi's real estate market?

The Magenta Line was inaugurated in two phases. The first portion from Botanical Garden to Kalkaji Mandir was inaugurated in December 2017 and the rest section was made operational in May 2018. Ever since the metro route became functional, it has been crucial in improving connectivity to different parts of the city and easing pressure on the Blue Line metro. In addition, the metro project has had a positive impact on the real estate market in the vicinity.

Better Connectivity

The Magenta Line connects two far-flung nodes of the national capital region that were originally linked with the Blue Line Delhi Metro. But the Magenta line takes a different path, passing through upscale districts of south Delhi, Panchsheel Park, Greater Kailash, Hauz Khas etc. The prices are already on the upper end and the supply is essentially saturated with bungalows and kothis giving way to independent floors. The Magenta Line effectively gave a push to connection in its adjacent neighborhoods, which gets spillover demand from these locations. Once extended near RK Ashram, north Delhi would have improved connectivity to the west which has largely been untouched to now.

Growth of real estate developments

The Magenta Line of the Delhi Metro links significant localities in West Delhi, South Delhi and East Delhi. With the future infrastructure and greater connectivity, the communities are witnessing a hike in the demand for houses. The real estate boom has hit residential neighbourhoods of Janakpuri West and Dabri Mor - South Janakpuri in West Delhi. Hauz Khas, Greater Kailash in South Delhi and other locations such as Vasant Vihar, Kalkaji Mandir and Okhla NSIC have seen a rise in demand for residential as well as commercial properties in their respective districts. “Besides, Kalindi Kunj and Botanical Garden to the east have also seen a big jump in property demand,” said Gupta.

Increase in property prices and rentals

Property values along the Delhi Metro Magenta Line route have increased considerably over the years compared to other less accessible neighborhoods. Metro connectivity has attracted home purchasers and investors, which has led to price rise.

Further, the demand for rented houses adjacent to the metro corridors has expanded throughout the years. This has caused rental prices in such locations to surge. Rental rates are likely to rise as the new metro routes are close to completion.

Commercial growth and availability of facilities

Magenta Line commercial premises and social amenities have emerged along the line. This has secured an improved quality of life for the inhabitants.

Strong rental demand

The demand for rental homes is relatively higher in the locations which are adjacent to the metro station since these regions are preferred by the tenants for the reason of simple commuting. This enables property owners to get regular rental income.

Localities Average Price (Rs/sqft) Rentals per month

Janakpuri West Rs 17,000 Rs 35,000

Vasant Vihar Rs 32,000 Rs 1 lakh

Kalkaji Mandir Rs 12,600 Rs 50,000

Rs 35,000 Rs 15,800 Paschim Vihar
