Delhi '47 master plan plotwise land use map goes digitized

The land use details plot-wise under the Master Plan for Delhi 2047 (MPD-2047) may be accessed online as an interactive GIS-based digital map, DDA officials said.

Citizens will be able to look up information regarding plot-wise land use under the Master Plan for Delhi 2047 (MPD-2047) on an online GIS-based interactive digital map, Delhi Development Authority (DDA) officials said on Tuesday, so that people will not have to visit civic or local body offices or depend on third parties.

The DDA website has an interactive map in the MPD-2047 section. The initiative was undertaken in the direction of Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu. The user can search for a certain area, place, or property, zoom in on the map, and view its designated land-use classification.

The land-use plan will be made available to people and professionals using an interactive GIS platform allowing for immediate access to location-specific planning information. “The idea is to provide more access to basic planning information and to reduce physical visits to seek routine queries,” said a senior DDA official.

The platform provides nine key land use categories, including residential, commercial, industrial, recreation, transit, utility, government, public and semi-public facilities, and agriculture and water bodies. Each category has been assigned a different color to help consumers recognize the intended application.

The map also has a few thematic layers on planning components, including land pooling areas, transit-oriented development (TOD) zones, etc. Other levels include Dwarka Sub-City, Rohini Project Layout, PM-UDAY colonies, and DDA parks.

The digital platform also contains measurement and drawing capabilities that enable users to measure distances and dimensions, such as the width or length of roads and plots, and mark or draw on the map for their reference and study. Officials said the GIS-based platform allows users to progressively zoom into locations to get a more detailed spatial picture, unlike the traditional 2D maps produced at a fixed scale.

The platform will be updated as new data is available. “It is also to provide planners, professionals, government agencies, and other stakeholders with planning information for preliminary assessments regarding infrastructure and development,” the source stated.

The GIS-based system, officials said, could also help integration of spatial data sets from various sectors and agencies in accordance with initiatives like the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.

The platform is intended to provide access to planning information and enable more openness and co-ordination in urban planning, the DDA stated.
